Bicycles

I purchased all of my bicycles from a now closed shop in Philadelphia called the Bicycle Stable. It was a fantastic bike shop that was next to my Philly house. The owner, Chaz, was a former bike racer and was always happy to chat about biking. I miss that kind of relationship with a bike shop owner, but the bikes keep rolling thanks to help from Bob Anderson - Bike Mechanic Extraordinaire. Here are the bikes that I ride:

  • 2006 Bianchi Volpe Steel 105/Tiagra - cyclo-cross bicycle frame with road wheels for commuting and city riding. A solid frame that's been my workhorse for years. I did crack the frame on this bike, but it was replaced under warranty with a 2008 Volpe. Years later, I'd break that 2008 frame, and Chaz told me he'd welded and repaired my old 2006 frame, so that's what I'm still riding.
  • 2007 Bianchi C2C 928 Carbon 105 Compact - a quality carbon touring bicycle that Chaz gave me a great deal on.
  • 1999 Giant Farrago SE - a heavy steel frame hybrid that I use for hauling groceries, cases of beer, etc. It's a nice upright bike and was the first bike that really got me into long rides.
  • Burley Child Trailer - I modified the trailer to safely carry two dogs or large and/or heavy cargo. I've used this to haul bagged soil, taken it bike camping, and put it to good use.

Bicycling is my main form of transportion, and I've turned-over thousands of miles on my bikes. All that riding means I've done some interesting rides. Below are my favorite rides in the Washington, DC region, the Philadelphia region, and some miscellaneous rides. Clicking the image below will download the kmz files for viewing in Google Earth.
